1. Whenever I think of Peng Hong, the song, I Love you For Sentimental Reason, comes to mind. I distinctly remember his deep resonant voice, his kindness, his sense of humour. All in all, a perfect gentleman, a great friend, someone you can call upon in times of need. Definitely going to miss you buddy. May you be well, may you be happy and may you be free from suffering. 2. Jee Koo was such an inspiration , i remember him telling us how he represented King Edward VII School Taiping Scouts to World Scout Jamboree in Austria? during his school days? He was a King Scout? During his school days…Then when he had a clinic in Bagan Serai, cycling 30 km everyday on Grandfather Ah Kongs old bicycle from Taiping to his clinic…quite a character, always cheerful, always a kind word, will miss him..

3. Our beloved friend and our family’s dearest companion, Dr. Khoo, passed away peacefully.

   He was a jovial and gentle man of few words — a skilled medical GP and also a faithful Buddhist.

   He once told me how deeply his two callings were intertwined: just as Buddhism offers a path from suffering to its end, so too did his profession. “I must first find the illness, its cause, whether it can be treated, and then prescribe the medication,” he said. In this way he healed not only bodies but also hearts, approaching every patient with kindness.

   From the early 1990s until around 2010, he and his beloved wife, Doreen, were steadfast supporters of the Hills Dhamma Group.

   May you have a good rebirth. May you continue to receive the blessings and guidance of the Triple Gem — the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha. May you attain peace.

8. ~ This is a tribute by Khoo Liew Jong to her brother Khoo Peng Hong on 11 June 2026. ~

   Dearest Phaik, Carol, Somsak & family, Chong Eu, and all you good relatives and friends,

   In these moments of shared grief, let us first of all express our gratitude to the Almighty for taking our beloved Peng Hong from us in such a peaceful and benign manner.

   It is with mixed feelings of sadness and happy recall that I am saying a few words in tribute to a brother whom I idolised and with whom I was a willing conspirator in the numerous exploits of carefree childhood. But owing to the constraints of time, I need to omit all anecdotes except for one episode which should be shared with family and friends.

   In 1951, at age 16, Peng Hong was selected as the sole representative from Malaya at the 7th World Scout Jamboree in Austria. He was an outstanding King Scout, had won many trophies and beaten strong contenders from premier boys’ schools from throughout the country. He certainly made our family and his school, King Edward VII Taiping, very proud of him! On the day of his departure for Austria, the whole school turned up at the railway station to wave him off! It was like a carnival!

   The Peng Hong I remember as a youth and as a young man was a cheerful, jovial fellow, popular among peers and cheeky enough to cause pretty young maidens to shy away from him!

   The 2 of us shared an unlikely hobby, that of singing Italian serenades and light classical songs. His favourites included Toselli’s Serenade, Sorrento, and La Golondrina.

   In bidding farewell to KPH, I want to thank him, on behalf of every member of our Khoo Kai Bee clan, for the happy times we were able to spend together, for his love, warmth, kindness, guidance and other forms of contribution which have added depth and value to our lives.

   May his soul rest in peace.

   1. Thank you Ah Ee my mothers Liew Poh younger sister for sharing this tribute and memory of our beloved uncle

      As the first qualified doctor in the Khoo Clan, my uncle Jee Koo largely inspired my career choice to be a doctor too.

      He was always encouraging and delighted to show the joys of caring for patients and his light hearted wittiness made the difficulty of the study of medicine seem delightful and purposeful.

      The physical distance may have been great but I will always cherish his close connections with his siblings especially his sisters.

      With the advent of FaceTime and Video call each episode we shared was very emotional for my mother Liew Poh who would cherish her darling Hong despite the fog of her lost faculties and you Ah Ee Could remember the most minute details and weave into the lovely stories we have to remember KPH

      I leave this on behalf of my mother who really missed him and with so much love conveyed by Caroline – we wish our beloved KPH a very joyous journey to the afterlife 🤗

9. This is an excerpt from the Eulogy delivered by Arun, eldest grandson, at the funeral service to celebrate the life of KPH:

   ” I was lucky enough to share a Chinese Zodiac sign, the PIG with my Koong Koong ( grandfather in Cantonese) as i was born in his 60th year. And while pigs are often considered lazy and slow, I would firmly reject that assessment of his character.

   The gentleman I knew was modest and unassuming , warm and deeply loving, a love expressed through hard work,dedication and provision for those he cared most about. He lived a life of quiet self sacrifice to build a secure and comfortable one for his family. His career as a family doctor spanned 60 odd years, starting in Bagan Serai, a small town in Malaysia, to the suburb of Seven Hills in Sydney’s west. He was a dedicated doctor to his patients, giving back to the community with tireless diligence, care and approachability. My siblings and I, his grandchildren through his daughter Caroline Mei Yin, will remember and miss a grandfather who had a cheeky, jovial side to him and who loved to sing and croon and recite poetry aloud in his strong voice. He never once admonished us but would caution us to “be careful”….

   He was selfless in his attentiveness and devotion to us as grandchildren, babysitting and entertaining us when we were young… He offered guidance and counsel to younger relatives, including nieces and nephews at key crossroads in their lives. And he extended that same warmth to his wider friendship circle, often hosting large gatherings for his Buddhist community at his home in Castle Hill, NSW and later in Strathfield, NSW.

   He once joked to me that “my inheritance would be his friends”. Looking around at the turnout today, I think I should be so lucky…..”

   Koong Koong, we will remember you with fondness and gratitude for the privilege of being your grandchildren, always,
