Today we say goodbye to my beautiful Nouno.
You were the kindest, most selfless soul, always putting everyone else before yourself and never hesitating to lend a hand. You took so much pride in your home, your family, and the life you built, and I hope I carry that same pride with me every day.
I feel so incredibly lucky to have grown up just two doors down from you. Some of my happiest memories are of those days and all the Basshillians together.
Thank you for the love, the laughs, and the memories. I’ll miss you more than words can say.
Rest easy, Nouno. You’ll always have a special place in my heart. ❤️
Theo Mou, We will always remember you for so many things – your love of perfection, your incredible DIY skills, and, of course, your honest opinions about food. You were a loving husband, a wonderful father, an adored Papou, an amazing brother, and an awesome Theo.
Together in Bass Hill, with our three crazy Greek households. Those memories of growing up side by side, filling our homes with laughter, love, and plenty of noise, will stay with us forever.
You will be deeply missed by all of us, but your love, your wisdom, and the stories you gave us will live on in our hearts. We promise we’ll make the trip to Pappas in your honour, sharing a meal, telling stories, and remembering you with every bite—just as you would have wanted.
Have a drink with Bundy and I know he will look after you 🙏🙏♥️♥️
My dearest Uncle George,
I will forever remember your beautiful smile, the kindness in your eyes, the gentleness of your heart, and the warmth of your voice.
I am so grateful to have had the privilege of knowing you and for all the precious childhood summers I spent with you and my beautiful family at Bass Hill. I will always treasure the endless laughter, the stories, and the memories that made those days so special.
I remember my endless fascination with Qantas Airlines and your work there – and my endless questions, the kindness with which you drove us around and took us to the mall, and your insistence that we listen only to classical music in the car. I remember you creeping up on us to tell us it was time for bed while we were gathered around the lounge room, watching countless episodes of comedy shows until dawn.
Your home was always filled with laughter, love, and a beautiful sense of togetherness.
I will always remember how excited you were whenever I came to visit, always encouraging me to stay a little longer, never wanting those moments together to end. It is because of you, and because of my beautiful family in Sydney, that Sydney holds such a special place in my heart.
I remember your encouraging words, the way you always reminded us to be our best, to try our hardest, and to never give up. You didn’t just tell us these things — you lived them, setting an example of kindness, strength, and perseverance right until the very end.
Thank you for the love, guidance, laughter, and beautiful memories you gave us. You will forever hold a special place in my heart.
May you rest in eternal peace, dear Uncle George. You will always be remembered and loved. 🩶
My pappou George was lots of things to lots of people. To my yiayia he was Γιώργο, a loving husband and her partner in life’s ups and downs, adventures, travels and milestones. To my mum, Nona and Baba he was dad, a devoted and proud father. To many he was Theo George, a kind and generous uncle with a big smile and always a story to share.
Sometimes, when he was in fix-it or handyman mode, he was known as GS, and you knew if something you did was “GS approved” you had done it to the highest standard and could be proud of your efforts. He was your biggest critic (if only to make you the best version of yourself) and your biggest fan.
To my cousins and myself he was Pappou George, sometimes pappou Pop, but most of the time just Pop, a wonderful grandfather you could always rely on for a big hug and lots of love. As kids to be thrown off his shoulders into the water at the beach was one of life’s biggest joys.
To me, Pop was the best grandfather I could ask for. But he was more than that. A father figure, a friend, a partner in crime, a mentor and a teacher. He taught me to drive, to cook, how to fix things, to take pride and joy in your family and your home, he told the best stories about his childhood in Egypt and early years in Australia that would captivate me. In the school holidays he’d look after me and I could always rely on Pop to take me to Maccas or KFC for lunch (even when I insisted Yaya had food waiting for us at home). I will never forget the summer I spent with yaya and Pop in Leros in 2017, endless morning coffees, days at the beach, eating yeeros in the evenings, and singing old songs on the bus that would take us down to Alinda.
Pop, I will miss you terribly but your love, memory and legacy will remain in my heart forever.
